Grandma, Grandpa and their favorite Grandchildren!

My siblings decided to gift a photo session for their parents (also known as my parents) with their children (my niece and nephews) It was strictly suppose to be a time spent with grandma, grandpa and the little tikes and it definitely was the happiest few hours of my parent’s life. As I was editing these photographs I was actually surprised and elated to see the delight and pure joy in my mom and dad’s eyes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such happiness in their faces in a long time. Or perhaps maybe I just need to look harder. It’s true you know, each day passes by so quickly, we rarely get to spend the moment to take notice in the people closest to you. I can honestly say that their grandchildren make them the most happy couple on earth and it’s so apparent in these photographs… I can just imagine how happy my parents were when my siblings and I were children

Note: Lots of MUMMUMs were eaten on this shoot to ensure some smiling.

Forestdale Annual Benefit

Last week, I was lucky to photograph a wonderful event hosted by the Forestdale organization. They are a group that is ”committed to breaking the destructive cycle of poverty and trauma that afflicts generations of inner-city children.” They have programs that help stabilize a healthy home life, educate young adults, and also strength their relationships within families– just to name a small few things they do. They are also based in Queens, NY (representing my borough!!)

Bella’s Doljanchi! (First Birthday)

In the Korean culture, first birthdays are a pretty big deal. They’re called “Doljanchi”. At a Doljanchi, a popular game they like to play is having a few items laid out for the baby to choose.. and whatever they choose would “determine their future”. Some of the categories were like athlete, housewife, scholar, singer, etc. At Bella’s birthday it was definitely a lottery. Her mom is an AMAZINGLY crafty woman. She set up an entire table of sweet treats, mostly hand-crafted items with intricate and delicately created details. It was beautiful, my camera couldn’t get enough of it! Here are few shots:

Here’s where the fun began to see what Bella’s future would hold…

And she ended up choosing the light-up-mic! Which would signify that she would become a singer!! I can totally see that happening!!

Ah, Bella seemed to have a wonderful day, smiling by the end of her party and enjoying a few rounds of Ring Around the Rosey with her friends (especially Joey, who loved to just fall on the ground and roll around)

Israel

So I was in Israel for 10 days and I got back last week. It was such an amazing experience, we went from Tel Aviv, up to Nazareth, down the west along the Jordan River, to the dead sea (I swam in there!) and then down to Jerusalem. It was probably the most enlightening trip I’ve ever been on. It was great to be able to see so much in such short time. The people were great there, the food was amazing (all organic, super sweet and fresh) and the views of the countryside were gorgeous. I have never been to such an beautiful and history rich place. The air even smelled fresher. I felt like I could really breath there– but what can I compare… I live in New York City… haha.

Cushman Family

Last weekend, I drove up to Chappaqua, New York to photograph the Cushman family. With a set of twin 5-year old boys and a 13 year old daughter- the task seemed a first, a little daunting but it came out to be such a glorious treat. Everyone was amazing- so sweet, calm, friendly and hospitable. The boys were really loving and graciously showed me all their cool Transformer toys, Dinosaurs and books. I also was able to spend some time with Alexis, who was such a beautiful young woman, and was able to capture some beautiful photographs of her. The family and I first took some desired “normal” family photographs in their cottage, then we packed into the minivan for a 5 minute drive to a nearby beautiful park. We took a scenic stroll (and yes, in 30 degree weather!) but was able to get some really gorgeous photographs for the family to keep and remember. They were real troopers… because it was definitely COLD. Here are few of my favorites from the day:

Stanley Scouts Jewelery Cocktail Night

On warmer November night, in Greenwich Village, Laura Stanley (StanleyScouts.com) hosted a vintage and one-of-a kind jewelry sale. Laura has traveled from the Roundtop Antique Fair in Texas and to the markets of India, where she’s been collecting extraordinary pieces of jewelry to share. Laura carefully composed and set up a section for each of the pieces to be displayed. It was a wonderful night, full of delicious catering and cocktails by the Little Owl and excited shoppers to check out some special pieces of jewelry from all over the world. Moy Family

Last month I spent a morning with the Moy family in midtown. They have a three year old son, named Evan. We started at FAO, but it seemed that Evan was more of a mechanics, trains, subways type of guy. He was attracted to fast moving objects, buttons, stairs, escalators and coin machines. He did not particularly seem to enjoy rocks, grass or stuffed animals as much….and when he saw Ironman, his eyes completely lit up. He’s definitely going to pursue a career in engineering…his curiosity for all things mechanical is too overwhelming– and it’s great! He was so fun to work with– completely open with anyone. He was holding my hand 15 minutes into our session and it was easy to hang out with him. The Moy family was such a friendly family and you can tell that Evan is truly a huge joy in this group! I loved working with them and photographing with them! Here are some highlights from our session:

Piper Yuen!

I like the name Piper.

Jen, the mother of a family I shot last year (the Yuen Family) asked me if I would do a portrait session of her new niece, Piper. It would be a gift to her brother and sister in law. I was excited to go see this 3 month little girl and was lucky enough to be able to do the shoot comfortably at their home. Piper was such a sweet, quiet little baby who was willing to give us smiles. Her favorite item of interest was magenta colored flowers and she didn’t let them out of her sight. But she also was enthralled with the camera. She couldn’t stop staring at the big black box with the round protruding glass. It was actually good that she was so interested in the lens, because that gave us good some great chances to get some beautiful photographs of her. She was such a happy and patient baby. I know it’s tough for newborns to keep working so hard, so she enjoyed her quick power naps throughout our time together-and they made for nice photographs too! Her parents, Roger and Quyen were also really sweet and kind throughout the entire shoot. I was really happy to have worked with such a wonderful family
